The New Year Is a Great Time to Review Your Data Backup Methods

With the start of 2020, now is the perfect time to review your current data backup methods. Quite often, people discover that their methods need updating for various reasons such as:

1. The “automated” data backup has not been updated, so not all data is being backed up.
When was the last time you reviewed what data was being backed up?  You may have installed new apps, created new folders with new data, etc., and these things are not included in the “automated” backup.
2. The storage location for the data being backed up is full.
When was the last time you checked to see how much free space was left for your data backups? If you save multiple backup copies, like one for each day of the week, it is not uncommon to run out of storage space. If there is not enough storage space, then data backups will fail, and you won’t have a copy of the latest data.
3. There is redundant data being backed up.
Have you ever gone to download your images from your smartphone from the cloud and noticed that you end up with multiple copies of the same images? Your smartphone backs up your images to the cloud and as long as they remain on the phone.
Each time you download the images onto your computer, you are downloading the same images over and over. If you also backup your computer, you are also saving the same images, yet again. Take the time to clean up redundant data that is being backed up on multiple devices and free up space at the same time!
